Why Take This Photo Tour With Us?

*No other tour of the Hawaiian Islands offers an opportunity for both the volcanic eruption and the native birds.
*We will have the premier guide for bird photography.
*Boat tour for lava flowing into the sea.
*We’ll stay on both coasts to take advantage of photo opportunities all around the island.

The Big Island of Hawaii is a treasure trove of photographic opportunities for both landscape and wildlife photographers. You’ll get to see it all, from the stereotypic palm tree sunsets to rainforest waterfalls and cascades. With any luck the volcano will still be erupting, and since Kilauea has been erupting pretty much continuously since 1983, our chances are good. We’ll almost certainly find sea turtles sunning themselves on the beach, and there will be optional snorkel excursions as well. This photo tour will also give us the best possible chances for great images of Hawaii’s native honeycreepers.

Hawaii’s numerous honeycreepers evolved from some marooned finches, more than half of them have gone extinct. The ones that still exist are some of the most colorful birds in the world, and many of them sport incredible, flower-probing bills as well. Our guide has been photographing these birds since the dark days of film, and he has been instrumental in helping recover large tracts of their habitat high on the slopes of Mauna Kea.

Come and discover that Hawaii is more than hula skirts and people getting sunburned on the beach. The 2 tallest mountains in the world (if measured from where they meet the ocean floor) dominate the horizon, and it’s often possible to ski on Mauna Kea. The name means “White Mountain.” You’ll see picturesque shorelines, dense rainforests, tropical flowers and newly restored habitat that is giving the native species a fighting chance for survival.
