Badlands sunrise
We’ll spend four days exploring Custer State Park and Badlands National Park in South Dakota. Our time will be split between wildlife and landscape photography, and sometimes we may be find the choice hard to make. With any luck at all, we’ll have some chances for astral photography since few places have darker skies or more impressive foregrounds for night photography than the Badlands. And as long as we’re so close, we’ll visit Mt. Rushmore as well.

This would be a great trip even without the photography, for we’ll be staying right in Custer State Park for two of the nights. That puts us as close to the photographic action as we can be, and to make things even better, the food is great.
Pronghorn & flowers
Bison fighting
Custer State Park is one of the best places in the country to photograph bison and pronghorns. Not only do they have lots of both species, but they are very tolerant of photographers. Badlands National Park is primarily known for its awesome scenery, but it’s also a great place to photograph bighorn sheep. We’ll definitely have plenty to photograph.
