Even for people with no interest in wildlife photography, the islands of Trinidad and Tobago are a tropical paradise. It’s a wonderful place to escape winter for a week, enjoying fresh fruit, tropical drinks and almost unbelievable floral displays. For wildlife photographers this country is something extra special, for it offers opportunities to capture species you simply cannot photograph any other place in the world. The daily return of 20,000 scarlet ibis to their evening roost is worth the price of admission all by itself. And the presence of tufted coquettes in the garden is something no bird lover can get tired of.
For five nights we’ll be staying at the Asa Wright Nature Center where we’ll be surrounded by tropical wildlife 24/7. You’ll have access to the hummingbirds, honeycreepers, tanagers, bellbirds, tegus, agoutis, clearwings and hundreds of other species just by stepping out your door. We'll also spend two nights on the island of Tobago, and while we won't have the incredible variety of species that call Asa Wright home, we will be only a short boat ride away from what is probably the best place in the world to photograph tropicbirds as they ride the wind right past our viewing platform.

Itinerary


Day 1:
Arrive in Trinidad and shuttle to Asa Wright Nature Center
Day 2 - 5:
Asa Wright Nature Center with side trips for scarlet ibis and other species
Day 6:
Leave Asa Wright Nature Center, short flight to Tobago, shuttle to Blue Water Inn
Day 7:
Short boat trip to Little Tobago for tropicbirds
Day 8:
Departure: Short flight back to Trinidad, catch flight to home.
