2019 PHOTO TOURS
January 20-25, 2019
No other place on Earth offers the incredible choice of subjects we find on this stretch of the California Coast. Ten of thousands of monarch butterflies cluster together on a short drive from thousands of elephant seals, sea otters with pups, displaying hummingbirds and more shorebirds than you can shake a stick at.

In recent years numerous locations have popped up as aurora destinations. However, Central Alaska continues to be one of the best, for the skies tend to be clear during the best aurora viewing time. Just as importantly, we’ll stay at backcountry lodges, and the aurora photography is only steps from your door. It’s hard to have a Northern Lights photo tour be more comfortable or convenient.

There is no doubt that Florida is the wading bird capitol of the country. The birds often pay no attention to photographers. We’ll be there during the most photogenic and interesting period of these birds’ lives—courtship and chick rearing. Some of them will be nesting almost within arm’s reach.
Birds, birds, birds!

A combination that’s hard to beat for landscape photography—the magnificence of the giant redwoods and a wide open beach with some of the most impressive sea stacks anywhere. All of your lenses will get a workout here—wide angle to macro. Elk are also a possibility for your telephoto.

For anyone who can’t get enough of wildlife babies, this is the photo tour for you. We’ll be photographing an incredible variety of pups, kittens, cubs and fawns in flowers, in woodlands, with reflections, just about anything we can think of. There will be no barriers between us and the animals. We will be a part of the pack.

Colorado is probably the best place for mountain goat photography in the world, and we’ll be there as the newborn kids are joining the herd. This will give us great opportunities for lots of behavior with some jaw-dropping scenery in the background.

This part of Brazil has become world famous because it is the only place where jaguars can be reliably photographed in the wild. But that’s only the beginning. The bird photography is almost unparalleled, there are giant otters, capybaras, caimans, the list goes on and on. And we’ll be staying right in the middle of it.

We’ve photographed wild horses many places throughout the West, but none have compared with this. The numbers of horses, their tolerance of photographers and the rugged landscape make this area special.

If you’re into desert wildlife, this one has it all. We’ll be photographing from morning blinds set up on waterholes and feeding stations, there will be captive reptiles, feeding hummingbirds, and night photography of several species of owls as well as drinking and feeding bats. We’ll all learn lots on this photo tour.

The East and Midwest have Colorado beat with the variety of colors in their fall forests, but nothing can compete with entire mountainsides glowing gold in the sun. The other states’ mountains can’t really compete with the Rockies, and the locations we’ll visit will highlight the best of what Colorado has to offer.
Our state—we’ll show you around!

Bald eagles are becoming more and more common, and there are lots of places where you can photograph them now. However, there is eagle photography and then there’s eagle photography. Thousands of eagles assemble along the Chilkat River for the last salmon run of the season, and there is no finer location for both eagle behavior and wild scenery.
